From the farm to the village…
A successful harvest still has a journey ahead of it before it reaches the people who will use it.
Fresh produce grown in Wajinja is loaded into the truck at the farm and transported along the local roads into the village, where it can be sold directly within the community. It is a simple trip on paper, but one that shows how important transportation and access are to a working local agricultural system.
The truck provides the connection between the land being cultivated and the market in the village. Load by load, produce can move from the farm to the people of Wajinja while creating an opportunity for locally grown food to generate income close to where it was produced.
The road itself is an equally important part of that process. Traveling between the farm and the village means navigating the conditions of rural Wajinja with a full load of produce, making dependable transportation an essential link between growing food and getting it to market.
Agriculture has continued to expand as part of the larger work underway in Wajinja. Improved access to clean water has helped farming grow within the community, while newer initiatives are creating additional connections between locally produced food, employment and commerce.
From planting and harvesting to loading the truck and making the drive into the village, every part of the trip matters.
For the produce leaving the farm, the road into Wajinja is where the next part of that work begins.
